North science teacher will help guide groups

POSTED: August 12, 2013 12:23 a.m.

North Forsyth High School teacher Donna Governor was recently selected to serve in leadership roles for several organizations.

In the spring, she will become president of the Georgia Science Teachers Association, where she will serve as director the following year.

Her most recent honor was being tapped as District V director of the National Science Teachers Association.

“This opportunity is exciting because it allows me to be better informed about regional and national issues in science education, to share that information within my district, and to represent the science education community in the southeast at the national level,” Governor said.

Her term on both the state and national associations will overlap, which she said could help her enhance both as “they have common goals at different levels.”

As for this year, Governor said she is looking forward to being part of the release of the Next Generation Science Standards.

“Being able to share information and improve awareness of this new direction in science instruction within my region is one of the most exciting things about my role with NSTA at this time,” she said.

“This opportunity to serve NSTA in a leadership capacity allows me to give back to my profession and is quite an honor.”
