Delays possible along Hwy. 53

Crews working to patch corridor

POSTED: August 14, 2013 12:28 a.m.

The morning commute may feel like more of a drag for motorists in northeastern Forsyth County as roadwork is causing traffic delays along Dawsonville Highway.

The work, which requires some occasional lane closures, is expected to continue beyond this week, said Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mark McKinnon.

“This is a resurfacing project which includes, in sequence, patching, leveling, resurfacing the entire roadway and shoulder filling,” he said.

According to McKinnon, the patching will take place along the corridor, also known as Hwy. 53, from Boling Bridge at the Forsyth-Hall County line and extending two miles east into Hall County.

Motorists will be directed to follow a pilot car through the resurfacing project.

McKinnon said the patching should be complete this week, with leveling and topping to follow.

Crews completed roughly two-thirds of one lane Monday, McKinnon said. They are working weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
