A 35-year-old Forsyth County man was arrested Saturday after he reportedly stabbed a longtime friend in the stomach.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Tommy Albert Samples has been charged with criminal attempt to murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

As of Tuesday, he remained in custody at the Forsyth County Detention Center, awaiting a bond hearing.

Samples reportedly stabbed a 58-year-old man on Friday morning during an argument that may have been “drug related,” said Doug Rainwater, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

“Investigators believe he actually tried to kill the man because of the stab wound,” Rainwater said. “It wasn’t a knick in the side or something like that. It was in the abdomen, straight in.”

He added that the men have been friends for a long time.

Deputies responded to the man’s Church Road home in north Forsyth about 1:30 a.m., according to a sheriff’s report.

The 58-year-old man was taken to the emergency room, but Rainwater said he will be all right.

It’s not known if the men were under the influence of alcohol or drugs, he said, as there was no immediate indication.

Samples had left the home, but was arrested in Dawson County the next day, according to Rainwater.
