PREP ROUNDUP: South volleyball continues impressive start

A recap of Tuesday's high school action

South Forsyth volleyball continued its impressive start to the season by sweeping a non-area tri-match at North Gwinnett on Tuesday.

The Lady War Eagles (14-1), ranked No. 1 in Class 6A in the latest PrepCountry.com Coaches Poll, defeated Buford 25-15, 25-20 and North Gwinnett 25-18, 25-16.

Taylor Svehla led South with 16 kills while Jordan Hawk added eight. Rachel Croce had 17 digs and seven kills, Tory Wright had a team-high 23 digs and Hannah Shanley added 14 digs. Kelli McCravy had 46 assists.

West gets swept

The Lady Wolverines dropped a pair of non-area matches on the road Tuesday.

West (6-9) lost to Cherokee 25-19, 25-19 and River Ridge 25-19, 25-11.

Shelby Lance led the Wolverines with 11 kills and three blocks, Jaz Berry had eight kills and Jordan Leitch had 13 assists and five aces.

Pinecrest splits

The Lady Paladins split a tri-match on the road.

Pinecrest (7-3) lost to Walker 22-25, 25-12, 25-14 and defeated King’s Ridge 25-15, 25-12.

Sofia Ferrari led the Lady Paladins on a 14-point serving run that ended the second set against King’s Ridge and sealed the match. Libero Amanda Boyd added consistent defense for Pinecrest.

SOFTBALL

North Forsyth 3, Alpharetta 2

The Lady Raiders scored two runs in the first before adding another in the top of the fourth to edge Alpharetta 3-2 on Tuesday.

Lea Ann Porter struck out three and allowed only six hits in the complete game win. Karlee Grab paced North with two RBIs, while Sydney Turner added another. Although the Lady Raiders only scored three runs, they racked up nine hits.

North upped its record to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA.

West Forsyth 10, Johns Creek 1

A four-run fifth and seventh inning put the game out of reach, as West upended Johns Creek 10-1 on Tuesday at the Gladiators’ field.

Lauren Bearden pitched a complete game to pick up the win for West in the circle, while Tatum Nicewander led the team with three RBIs. Caitlin Parks had two RBIs while Bailey Concatto and Randyee Bernstein each had an RBI.

Johns Creek had a difficult time in the field with six errors, as West scored six runs off mishaps.

The Lady Wolverines improved to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in Region 6-AAAAAA.
