West Forsyth’s Andrew Marshall knew it was time to make a decision.

The senior center committed to Georgia Tech early Thursday afternoon after visiting the campus last week. The 247Sports three-star boasted 11 Division-1 offers, including Duke, Syracuse and Wake Forest.

“Andrew is a great player and a great student,” West head coach Frank Hepler said. “I think that’s going to be a great partnership. He’s a great fit for Georgia Tech and I think that Georgia Tech is a great school and they’re getting a great player.

“There were many, many good schools recruiting him, but we’re excited for him going to Georgia Tech. It’s right here in our backyard, one of our state schools. It’s our first Division-1 state school player we’ve had, so we’re excited about that.”

The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder was a preseason first-team all-state player entering the season after being named to the second-team last year. Marshall guided West to a 10-2 season and helped the offense average 40.3 points per game en route to a region championship.

Marshall also shines in the classroom, where he sported a 3.8 grade point average last year.

Since the NCAA regulates how often colleges can contact recruits, Hepler said he acted as a mediator throughout the course.

“The young men have the biggest role in the process and then the parents,” Hepler said. “…I’ve just been acting as the go-between. Between myself and other coaches on the staff, we’ve counseled Andrew at different times and answered any questions the parents have had.”
