Fall rate reduction coming from Sawnee

POSTED: September 24, 2013 12:29 a.m.

Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation has announced a rate reduction that will impact most of the electric company’s customers for the next few months.

According to information from Sawnee EMC, the corporation’s board of directors approved a reduction in the Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment factor, by which most electric bills are calculated.

The rate change will go into effect Oct. 1 and will reduce monthly bills by $7.50 per 1,500 kilowatts used.

Since bills are calculated based on use, customers’ monthly savings will depend on how much power they use.

Blake House, vice president of member services, said in a statement that Sawnee officials “know that many families continue to experience personal financial challenges and we are proud to be able to help in any way we can.”

The reduction is anticipated to lower electric bills for some 136,000 Sawnee EMC customers for October, November and December.

It’s estimated that the reduction, in total, will save Sawnee members nearly $3 million in energy bills over the three-month time frame.
