Forsyth Central couldn’t stop Sprayberry’s rushing attack in route to a 45-28 loss at the Yellow Jackets on Friday in the Region 7A-AAAAA opener.

The Bulldogs (0-4, 0-1) gave up 233 yards on the ground to Sprayberry’s Shane Young (106 yards), Rakeem Myricks (66) and Shane King (61).

Despite Central’s troubles on defense, the Bulldogs’s offense gave them a chance early on. Ryan Hintz rushed for a 15-yard touchdown after Ryan Mitchell recovered a fumble at midfield and returned it to the Yellow Jackets’ 28 yard line. Jeremiah Jones caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Aubrey Blackmon to pull Central within 17-14 at halftime.

But Central’s momentum was short lived. Hintz fumbled the ball away on the first play of the second half and Sprayberry took advantage of the short field, needing only four plays before Young threw a touchdown pass to Jontae Williams to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 24-14. King’s 2-yard touchdown run, his second of the game gave Sprayberry at 31-14 lead.

"We had good opportunities," Central coach Shane Williamson said. "We were in the ball game at the half. We started off with a turnover, put us in a bad situation and we’re the type of team right now that can’t overcome mistakes."

After Hintz’s second touchdown of the night cut the lead to 31-21 late in the third quarter, the Bulldogs recovered the ensuing onside kick at midfield. But they were forced the punt after three plays and mishandled the punt.

Jabari Zuniga recovered the ball and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown to make the score 38-21. Myricks added a 14 yard touchdown run late in the fourth increased the lead to 24 points.

Central’s Sabrien Howard’s 3-yard touchdown run with under two minutes ended the scoring for the evening. Howard finished with a game high 149 yards, while Hintz ran for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
