Meetings about school attendance zones wrap up

There's still time to comment online

POSTED: October 26, 2013 1:15 a.m.

Over the course of two nights this week, the Forsyth County Board of Education met with about 70 passionate parents on the school system’s upcoming redistricting.

Though the second meeting was not as well attended as the first, many of the parents were able to share their concerns about the process, which has been necessitated by crowding on some campuses, and decision making.

Both sessions were held at South Forsyth High School. The first, on Tuesday, was designed for parents of elementary schools — Big Creek, Brookwood, Daves Creek, Haw Creek, Settles Bridge, Sharon, Shiloh Point and Midway — that will be impacted by the redrawn attendance zones.

Thursday, the meeting was open to parents of students attending Riverwatch, South Forsyth or Lakeside middle schools, which also will be affected.

Feedback on the latest version of the proposed 2014-15 school boundaries can still be made online through Nov. 1 at www.forsyth.k12.ga.us.

System spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo said about 80 comments have come in so far.

Much like the initial version, the school board will go through each one individually and explore all suggestions.

“The board will review and discuss all input on draft 2 at their November work session and approve the final lines at their regular meeting that month,” she said.
