Library offering event for ‘Day of the Dead’

POSTED: November 2, 2013 12:27 a.m.

Laura Bradley is dying for Forsyth County youth to participate in a program today at the Cumming Library.

The branch will celebrate El Dia de Los Muertos, Spanish for the “Day of the Dead,” with crafts, treats and stories.

“We’ll be making skeleton puppets, traditional tissue paper flower decorations, paper plate skull masks and we’ll have Day of the Dead coloring sheets,” she said.

The program, which begins at 2 p.m., will feature bilingual storyteller Tersi Bendiberg, who has performed both in Georgia and nationally.

She will present “Day of the Dead: A Scary Name for a Beautiful Celebration” and will incorporate stories explaining the holiday’s history.

“This program is unique because it will be bilingual, in both Spanish and English,” Bradley said. “It is an excellent opportunity for the library to provide programming to the Spanish-speaking community in Cumming.

The program is open for all ages and registration is not required. For more information, visit www.forsythpl.org.
