Prep football: Chattahoochee at Lambert

Longhorns continue drive toward playoffs

POSTED: October 31, 2013 5:05 p.m.

When, where: Tonight, 7:30 p.m., at The Horn in Suwanee.

Records, rankings: Chattahoochee is 3-5 overall, 1-4 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked; Lambert is 4-4, 3-2 and unranked.

Series history: Chattahoochee leads 2-1.

Last meeting: Chattahoochee won 48-14 in 2012.

What to know: Lambert’s 14-12 loss to region leader Alpharetta last week ended a three-game winning streak that thrust the Longhorns back into contention for a playoff spot after a 1-3 start. Lambert needs to win out to guarantee a playoff appearance, but the Longhorns can go 1-1 and still make the playoffs if region tiebreakers fall in their favor. They’ll need more out of an offense that’s struggled to move the ball and more of the same from a defense that held Alpharetta to 19 points below its season average.

Perhaps it’s good timing then for Chattahoochee to come to The Horn. The Cougars are in the midst of a three-game losing streak. They hit rock bottom last week with a 48-21 loss at West Forsyth that eliminated them from the playoffs. Chattahoochee’s defense has allowed 37.7 points per game during its losing streak, and injuries to the offensive line have hurt the unit’s effectiveness, turning Michael Owens’ first year at the helm into a disappointment.
