Boot camp on human resources this week

POSTED: November 18, 2013 12:30 a.m.

The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce is looking for a few good businessmen and women to take part in boot camp.

Rather than running and doing jumping jacks, participants in the two-day Human Resource Boot Camp will attend several classes designed around timely business management topics.

The program is set for 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the University of North Georgia Cumming Campus, 300 Aquatic Circle.

Cost to attend is $30 for chamber members and $40 for non-members. The cost is the same whether attendees register for one or both days.

According to information on the chamber’s website, the event is designed to provide business professionals with “knowledge about the top issues that are impacting their industry and workplaces.

“Participants will leave the workshop with real-life takeaways that they can implement in their companies,” it says.

The boot camp is being presented by the chamber’s Human Resource Council, but is not limited to those who work in that field. It’s also open to department and office managers, executives and business owners.

The event will feature presenters from the Georgia departments of economic development and labor and Fisher & Phillips LLP, a law firm specializing in business legalities.

Among the topics to be addressed are work force development resources, protecting confidential information, and strategies for improving safety programs.

Other courses will include protection laws, dealing with the Family and Medical Leave Act and workplace investigations.
