Reminder: School's out until Dec. 2

POSTED: November 25, 2013 12:31 a.m.

Thanksgiving is still a few days away, but traffic in Forsyth County likely will thin this week as school is out until Dec. 2.

“This weeklong break has been popular in our community and will be continued in next year’s calendar,” said system spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo.

Roads may be less congested, but Todd Shirley said there are plenty of families in Forsyth playing host to Thanksgiving with the family instead of traveling. He added that there are also going to be more “teen drivers on the road next week because of the closing of schools.”

“We urge all drivers to travel safely,” he said. “Thanksgiving is a heavily traveled holiday, particularly the days prior to and also during Black Friday.”

Classes will resume Dec. 2, but students will get out Dec. 20 for winter break, which runs until Jan. 7. Caracciolo said students will be busy during that time between the two holidays.

“Once we return, all will be busy wrapping up the first semester prior to winter break,” she said. “We hope our staff, students and their families have a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday.”
