Commission to discuss affidavit modification

POSTED: November 24, 2013 12:27 a.m.

The Forsyth County commission announced Thursday that the rezoning affidavit modification rejected earlier in the week by the planning board will be discussed at a Dec. 10 work session.

Jim Boff said he and fellow Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills added it to the agenda.

The affidavit proposal would require corporate entities applying for rezoning to reveal identities of its stockholder, officers and directors unless traded on a national stock exchange.

Also during their meeting, commissioners:

* Heard that the owner of the building at 327 Dahlonega St. withdrew his offer for a three-year lease agreement with the county.

Commissioners had tentatively approved the agreement as a new location for the procurement department.

* Postponed a final vote on a survey of a potential property donation to Dec. 19.

New information from the county engineering department determined that the undevelopable 8 acres next to Fowler Park may be a better fit for a neighboring homeowners association than Forsyth, since the land is on the other side of the Big Creek.

The commission delayed the matter to allow time to contact the Longwood HOA.

* Approved a rezoning from agricultural to Res-2 for 7.8 acres on Echols Road. D.R. Horton requested the change to expand a planned development.

The approval included several conditions and allowed variances only along the border with the property seller.

* Granted a rezoning for nearly 19 acres on Daves Creek Drive from agricultural to Res-3 for Eddie Fowler.

Several conditions intended to preserve home quality in the area were included, such as a minimum of 2,400 square feet of heated floor space and a brick front required.

The applicant originally sought a Res-4 rezoning. Commissioner Todd Levent was absent for this 4-0 vote.

Note: All votes were 5-0 unless otherwise noted.
