Man indicted for mail-delivered pot

Shipments arrived from California, Colorado

POSTED: December 16, 2013 12:29 a.m.

A Forsyth County man accused of having large quantities of marijuana delivered to his home through the mail has been indicted on drug charges, along with a woman at the house at the time of the raid.

Brandon Dupont, 24, and Chelsey Berryhill, 22, face one count each of trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug-related objects.

Dupont was arrested in November following a month-long investigation that began with an anonymous tip.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, investigators determined that about 10 pounds or more of marijuana were being shipped weekly to Dupont's home on Pilgrim Mill Circle from California and Colorado.

Berryhill was not arrested on Nov. 14 with Dupont, but evidence seized in the raid led to her being taken into custody later, said Doug Rainwater, sheriff’s office spokesman.

At the time of the raid, Berryhill was nine months pregnant, Rainwater said.

Another woman was arrested on Nov. 15 for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in connection with the case, but Kerri Gray, 30, was not included in the indictment.

The Forsyth County Grand Jury also indicted two men on burglary charges last week.

Dustin Joshua McConnell, 22, and Justin Vaun Pendley, 38, are charged with one count each of residential burglary for reportedly entering a Surrey Court home on Oct. 25.

The men were seen leaving with items they didn’t have when they walked in.

A neighbor in the Mulberry Farms subdivision called 911 after seeing the suspicious activity at the house, which had been the target of a home invasion eight days earlier.

In the first incident, a resident scared off a burglar by firing a gun into the wall, according to a report of the incident. She was alerted to that break-in by her daughter. Both women were home at the time.

McConnell and Pendley have not been named as suspects in that case.
