Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia added a new homeowner Saturday.

Michelle Lett and her 16-year-old son, Xavier, and daughter, Hailey, 13, were officially welcomed to their Leigh Lane residence in northeast Forsyth County during a dedication ceremony.

The home was built in partnership with the family, which has faced many hardships. Friends, family members and community representatives attended the ceremony.

Michelle Lett said she and her children were especially excited to be able to move into their new home before Christmas.

“This home is a blessing for me and my children,” she said. “Thank you to all of the sponsors, volunteers and Habitat staff who helped make this miracle happen.”

The Lett home is the third that Habitat has built on Leigh Lane, with two more planned for 2014.

Several community organizations and businesses assisted during the construction process. Among them were: Christ the King Lutheran, Cumming First United Methodist and First Baptist Cumming churches; Lambert and South Forsyth high schools; New York Life; North Georgia United Methodist Housing and Homeless Council; and Rachford Charitable Trust.

Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership.

Since its inception in 1995, 250 homes have been completed and more than 850 family members have been served in Forsyth, Dawson, Cherokee and north Fulton counties.

The homeowners are required to perform 300 “sweat equity” hours during the construction of their home, and attend 10 classes on home ownership.

They are provided with a 25-year, no-interest loan to buy their home.
