New church holding first service Sunday

Cross Church Atlanta will meet at South Forsyth High

A new church congregation, Cross Church Atlanta, will hold its first service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at South Forsyth High School’s Performing Arts Center.

Lead by pastors Josh and Monica Mayo, the church is open to anyone. According to information from the church, the Mayos hope to help the community “find life” and “to connect people who are excited and passionate about their faith with an opportunity to grow in their spiritual journey and truly make it part of their whole life.”

As part of the opening service, the Mayos are inviting all attendees to lunch to hear more about their vision.

“We want to help people know in this consumer-driven society that God is still alive and active in the world today,” Josh Mayo said in a statement. “And that He wants to be more personally involved in their whole life, not just Sunday morning.”

Another a key part of the church will be its children’s activities, which will take place during the adult worship services.

The Mayos have been mentored for the past couple of years by Pastors Dennis and Colleen Rouse of Victory World Church.

“They’ve taught us, most of all, that the Kingdom of Christ is beyond skin color, age or socio-economic status and that God wants to reconcile cultures in the church first,” Josh Mayo said. “We’ve also learned that real life is found when we go outside our comfort zones.”

Josh Mayo is a third-generation pastor whose grandfather started more than 30 churches in the Atlanta area. His parents recently returned to Atlanta to serve as pastors after ministering in other parts of the U.S.

Josh Mayo has served a youth and young adult pastor and conference speaker. During his time with the Rouses, he was a youth minister to more than 200 students and young adults at Victory’s Hamilton Mill campus.

The new church has the spiritual and financial backing of Victory, as well as support from other church leaders nationwide. The church will meet at 585 Peachtree Pkwy. For more information about the new church, visit www.crossatlanta.com.
