Prep roundup: Lambert boys reach milestone

Lambert boys basketball reached a new milestone in a 71-63 victory at Chattahoochee on Friday in the Region 6-AAAAAA teams’ regular season finale.

The win improved the Longhorns to 20-5, a new school record for wins in a single season, and 13-1 in the region. Lambert will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region tournament that begins Tuesday at West Forsyth.

Joe Bates and Tanner Hall each had 23 points to lead the Longhorns.

Pinecrest Academy 71, Commerce 57: The Paladins won their fifth straight in a Region 8-A game on the road.

Pinecrest improved to 10-14 overall and 8-6 in the region.

Nick Palmer led the Paladins with 22 points. Michael Bruckner added nine rebounds and five blocks, and Ryan McCarthy had 10 rebounds and five steals.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

North Forsyth 68, Centennial 58: The Lady Raiders led by more than 15 throughout most of the night, ending the regular season on a high note.

Junior point guard Lochlain Corliss led North (23-2, 13-1) with 21 points and six assists, and Caroline Bowns chipped in 19 points as well.

The Lady Raiders have won their last five games by 10 or more points, giving them lots of momentum heading into the Region 6-AAAAAA tournament.

South Forsyth 78, Johns Creek 29: The Lady War Eagles took care of Johns Creek with a convincing to cap off a highly successful 2013-14 regular season.

Junior Shelby Threlkeld, who had a strong game Tuesday against Alpharetta, led the Lady War Eagles (22-4, 11-3) in scoring with 17 points. Ally Welch contributed 14, and Caroline Diem and Sarah Myers each had 12.

After a somewhat close first quarter that ended with South up 17-10, the Lady War Eagles took over by outscoring Johns Creek 61-19 the rest of the way.

South now heads into the Region 6-AAAAAA tournament riding a three game win streak after dropping two straight on Jan. 24 and Feb. 1.
