Attorney vies for Solicitor General

POSTED: February 9, 2014 3:00 p.m.

Attorney William A. Finch recently announced his candidacy for the Forsyth County Solicitor General race.

Before starting his private practice in 2001, Finch was a Fulton County police officer for eight years. He’s a past president of the Forsyth County Defense Bar and has worked in the Forysth County Solicitor’s Office.

“It has been one of my goals for a while now and based on my experience as an officer and working in the solicitor’s office here in Forsyth County for a while and then doing defense work ... I decided I wanted to get back to prosecution,” Finch said.

Finch has 16 years of experience as a lawyer. He is a graduate of University of North Georgia and John Marshall Law School. He and his wife, Leah, have lived in the county for 20 years. His two daughters were both raised in the county and attended Forsyth schools. His daughter Anna Cathryn is a sophomore at Georgia Tech and his daughter Rachel is a sophomore at North Forsyth High School. The family attends Browns Bridge Community Church.

Having worked all sides of the case, Finch said he would bring “well-rounded experience” to the office.

“Knowing what the officers are going through there on the side of the road or working any domestic violence case, and after arresting folks for DUIs or domestic violence, prosecuting them and then later on defending some of those people who were arrested for the same charges — I can understand each side,” he said.

Finch is the third candidate to announce for the race. He will face off against Susan Zereini and Donna Gopaul, who was appointed to the office by Gov. Deal in March.

“What we all will be doing as individual candidates is to be asking Forsyth County to invest in us,” he said. “I think the Forsyth County citizens can see that I’m fully invested in them.”
