GAINESVILLE — The North Georgia Community Foundation’s board of directors has elected James McCoy as chairman for 2014.

McCoy serves as president and CEO of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce.

In making the announcement, the foundation noted that McCoy has a long history of community involvement, which includes serving as past president of the Rotary Club of Lanier-Forsyth and a Paul Harris Fellow.

He also is past president of the board for the Forsyth County Arts Alliance and was the founding chairman of the Board for Mentor Me North Georgia.

In addition, McCoy serves on the board of directors for the Bald Ridge Boys Lodge, an emergency shelter for young men experiencing a time of crisis.

A graduate of Wake Forest University, McCoy will receive his MBA in June from the University of North Georgia.

Founded in 1985 by Lou Fockele and other business leaders, the foundation is dedicated to enhancing the spirit and quality of life in northeast Georgia by building, managing and awarding charitable grants from a pool of community funds valued in excess of $47 million.

To date, more than $45 million in grants have been given out. The organization also promotes training and networking among the region’s nearly 300 nonprofits.
