Sid Maxwell has resigned as Lambert's head football coach.

The announcement was made by the team's Twitter account Tuesday morning. Lambert athletic director Drew Ferrer confirmed Maxwell's resignation to the Forsyth County News, saying Maxwell made up his mind after visiting his son, Brock, a freshman on the University of South Carolina baseball team, this past weekend.

Ferrer said Maxwell broke the news Monday to his coaching staff, players and members of the Longhorn community.

"Right now he's in a place where he's just really enjoying being able to watch [Brock] and wanting to be a parent," Ferrer said. "...He's going to be missed. He's been great for us."

Maxwell leaves Lambert after five seasons. He became the school's first football coach in 2009 and went 27-16 in four varsity seasons that included state playoff appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2013.

Maxwell has an overall varsity head coaching record of 124-83 in 20 seasons at Lambert and Sequoyah.

Ferrer said the school will accept résumés for two weeks, conduct interviews and aim to have a new head coach named in April around spring break.

Check back later for more details.
