McEACHERN vs. SOUTH FORSYTH

When, where: Saturday, 6:30 p.m., at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

Records, seedings: McEachern is 26-2 and No. 1 seed from Region 4-AAAAAA; South is 26-5 and the No. 2 seed from Region 6.

What to know: If South thought it saw impressive collections of talent in Norcross and Parkview, just wait. McEachern is on another level. The Lady Indians boast junior guard and North Carolina commitment Te’a Cooper (19.3 PPG), one of the top junior forwards in the country in Caliya Robinson (11.9 PPG, 10.6 RPG) and Wake Forest signee Taylor Gordon (12.7 PPG). Cooper started as a freshman on McEachern’s 2012 state championship team, and the Lady Indians have been clicking on all cylinders so far in averaging 93 points per game in their three wins. McEachern hasn’t lost to a team from Georgia this season.

South is making the first semifinals appearance in the GHSA basketball tournament since Forsyth County High School in 1970. But the Lady War Eagles have relished the role of the underdog. They knocked out defending champion Norcross on Monday and then perennial contender Parkview on Wednesday. Sophomore guard and Maryland commitment Sarah Myers has come through averaging 23.6 points per game in the state tournament, and the Lady War Eagles have been clutch at the free throw line making 82.1 percent (55 for 67) during their historic run.

How they got here: McEachern defeated Rockdale County (104-46), Brunswick (94-75) and Douglas County (81-52); South defeated South Gwinnett (62-39), Norcross (62-50 in overtime) and Parkview (53-50).

What’s next: The winner plays the Lowndes-Archer winner.
