Longer senior expo scheduled March 15

POSTED: March 3, 2014 12:11 a.m.

FORSYTH COUNTY -- Seniors and their families will have additional time to learn about community resources during an upcoming event.

The annual Forsyth Senior Expo is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15 at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center.

The free event provides an opportunity for seniors to learn more about local resources available to help them plan for the future.

During the expo, they will have a chance to visit booths set up by various businesses and agencies in a range of areas such as home care, senior living and legal and medical care.

In addition, they will have a chance to take part in many free health screenings, such as blood pressure and glucose monitoring.

Refreshments and door prizes will also be given out.

Julie Gruen, special events team leader with senior services, said the expo has been lengthened.

“The senior expo is always such a well-attended event that this year we decided to extend it from a three-hour event to four hours,” she said.

Last year’s expo drew about 1,500 people and featured some 85 vendors.

Organizers are hoping for similar numbers this month.

“We look forward to our community’s seniors and their families, friends and caregivers attending and taking advantage of all the information that will be available,” Gruen said.
