Part of Parks Road to close this month

POSTED: March 3, 2014 12:12 a.m.

NORTH FORSYTH — A section of Parks Road in northeast Forsyth will be closed for several weeks beginning March 10.

According to information from Forsyth County government, the closure will include the stretch from Hwy. 306 to Burruss Mill Road. The closure is necessary to allow crews to install a box culvert at Six Mile Creek.

“This is a reinforced concrete structure that will have two 10-foot by 10-foot openings and be built in place to allow Six Mile Creek to flow, replacing the existing failing metal pipes,” said Tim Allen, the county’s assistant director of engineering.

The work, which is part of a traffic safety improvement project funded by the county’s 1-cent sales tax, has been awarded to Marin Contracting for $223,840.

Parks Road is expected to reopen to traffic by April 20, weather permitting.

In the meantime, traffic in both directions along the road will be detoured from Parks to Hwy. 306 to Burma Road to Burruss Mill and back to Parks.

Allen said signage noting the detour will be set up.
