WEST FORSYTH -- The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to track down two men who broke into West Forsyth High School early Saturday.

Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said security camera footage shows the two suspects didn’t seem intent on stealing any items from the school, but did cause “roughly $1,400 in damage.”

“It wasn’t as if they were there to do anything else except just cause damage,” he said.

The break-in happened between 3:30 and 3:45 a.m. Saturday. Law enforcement and school officials were able to secure the campus before classes began Monday.

One of the men is seen carrying a hatchet, which authorities say the two used to gain entrance to the school by breaking a window.

According to Rainwater, the men damaged a vending machine, card swipe mechanism on the wall and some windows. There was no graffiti and no items were missing from the school.

“Just random damage,” he said. “There are no leads right now, but we’re still looking. It’s very active.”
