Annual Gala for Life scheduled Thursday

Fundraiser backs Whispering Hope

POSTED: March 9, 2014 12:03 a.m.

FORSYTH COUNTY -- A Forsyth County nonprofit that assists women facing unplanned pregnancies will hold its annual fundraiser this week.

Whispering Hope will present its annual Gala for Life on Thursday at the Metropolitan Club, 5895 Windward Pkwy., in Alpharetta. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m., followed immediately by a dessert reception and silent auction.

There is no cost to attend, but those planning to come should R.S.V.P. by the end of the day Tuesday by calling (770) 889-8302 or emailing director@whisperinghope.org.

The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for Whispering Hope, a Christian-based organization that provides free pregnancy and STD tests, as well as limited ultrasounds, counseling and educational information for women and teenagers.

There are also programs that allow the women to work one on one with an advocate, through group classes, and to earn money to buy items such as diapers, wipes, clothes, car seats and formula at the nonprofit’s Mommy Store. Its post-abortion program helps women struggling with emotional trauma.

“Whispering Hope exists to see lives saved and hearts changed,” said Jackie Batson, executive director.

Thursday’s event will feature Pat Layton, a nationally-acclaimed pro-life author, speaker and coach.

According to her website, Layton is the founder and president of Life Impact Network, a “25-year-old sanctity of life ministry” in Tampa, Fla., which “has grown to include one of the nation’s largest crisis pregnancy centers for women, an adoption agency, an abstinence education program and an international post-abortion recovery program.”

Layton will present information about her ministry during the gala, while Whispering Hope’s achievements from 2013 will also be highlighted.

Batson is hoping for a large turnout.

“The Gala for Life is Whispering Hope’s primary community outreach for 2014 and will determine our operating budget for the remainder of the year,” she said, noting that organizers are hoping to raise at least $125,000.

Last year, she said, Whispering Hope assisted nearly 400 women.

“People need to know about the lifesaving work their local pregnancy resource center does for women facing untimely pregnancy,” Batson said.

“We hope everyone will join us for a wonderful evening as we celebrate this year’s accomplishments and push forward to serve even more women and their families.”
