SOUTH FORSYTH — Authorities went door to door Saturday in several south Forsyth subdivisions as they attempted to capture an armed robbery suspect.

The effort was part of an 11-hour search that involved the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies, tracking dogs, SWAT teams and a helicopter.

Authorities have described the suspect, Kinneth Battle of Cumming, as armed and dangerous. Although there’s no indication he remained in south Forsyth, authorities are continuing to patrol a 5-square mile area near Highway 9 and Bethelview Road.

According to authorities, the robbery occurred about 2 a.m. Saturday at the BP station on Hwy. 9 and Windward Parkway in Alpharetta.

Alpharetta police said one of the two men who entered the store, later identified as Fredrequis Cobbs, jumped the counter and snatched the cash register drawer.

He and the second unknown suspect then ran out. Cobbs left in a Jeep, which had been parked on the side of the building and is believed to have been driven by Battle, while the second suspect fled on foot.

The store clerk got the tag of the getaway vehicle, which authorities traced to Battle’s home in the Kentmere subdivision of south Forsyth.

"Fortunately, we just happened to have eight extra deputies working a burglary suppression task force in south Forsyth, and they were waiting when the suspects pulled into their driveway,” said Sheriff Duane Piper.

Cobbs was arrested after trying to hide in the back of the jeep. However, Battle ran off into a nearby wooded area, armed with an AK-47 or an AR-15 or similar weapon.

Battle, 20, is described by police as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and numerous tattoos on his arms, legs and chest. Authorities say he is known to frequent Alpharetta and southwest Atlanta.
