CUMMING — Two people were injured in a rear-end collision Monday afternoon that tied up traffic for about 30 minutes on Sawnee Drive, just north of Cumming.

The wreck, which occurred about 3:10 p.m. Monday, remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, a westbound Chevrolet Equinox was stopped to make a right hand turn into Mountainside when a Mercury Mountaineer struck it from behind. This caused the Equinox to rotate 180 degrees and come to rest in a ditch.

The female driver of the Equinox was taken to North Fulton Hospital, while the woman who was driving the other vehicle was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth.

The injuries to both drivers, whose names have not been released, were described by firefighters at the scene as not life threatening.

The driver of the Mountaineer has been charged with following too close, according to the sheriff’s office.

Staff writer Jennifer Sami contributed to this report.
