Tax Day Rally at courthouse Monday

Organized by local Tea Party Patriots Alliance

POSTED: April 12, 2014 12:04 a.m.

CUMMING — Bob Frey hopes hundreds of people will cover the courthouse steps Monday during the Forsyth County Tea Party Patriots Alliance Tax Day Rally.

“We’re trying to make this a big event, and hopefully if it comes off good, maybe it will be an annual event,” said Frey, alliance co-chair.

“The government is getting too big and too intrusive. This year, we decided to do the Tax Day Rally because of the IRS and the way they’ve been targeting people who are on the conservative side.”

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with patriotic songs and the rally. At 6 p.m., Frey said four guest speakers will talk about wasteful government spending, the proposed FAIR tax, the 16th and 17th Amendments and the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

U.S. Rep. Tom Price, the keynote speaker, will address the health care law.

Frey said Price has “been one of the biggest fighters against Obamacare on a nationwide basis.”

Other speakers will include David Pennington, Georgia Republican gubernatorial hopeful, U.S. Senate candidate Derrick Grayson and Tom Knox, who is running for the District 26 state House seat.

While taxes are due April 15, Frey said the Monday night rally likely would be the best attended, and wouldn’t conflict with other rallies being held Tuesday.

In addition to speakers, Frey said several candidates — both local and state — in the May 20 primary are expected to attend and greet constituents.

“We’re in a primary election season now,” Frey said. “Just the fact that we’re getting people out and getting them involved and now they’re going to find out more from the candidates ... hopefully this will get people involved in the system.”
