Cornerstone sixth-graders first in state competition

NORTH FORSYTH — For the second year in a row, Cornerstone Schools in north Forsyth fielded successful teams in the eCybermission competition.

The school took first place for sixth grade in the web-based science, technology, engineering and mathematics state competition.

For the event, teams proposed a solution to a real community problem. Challenges included alternative sources of energy, environment, food, health and fitness, forces and motion, national security and safety, robotics and technology.

The winning team from Cornerstone included Shea Connelly, Lily Harris, Gabriel Kendrick and Mary Kathryn Lynch. Each student will receive $1,000 in U.S. savings bonds.

The school’s eighth-grade team — Elena Bragg, Ryan Jasion, Sam Larsen and Hayden Walker — finished second in its division.

The competition had more than 10,000 participants.
