Jobs, services fair scheduled Saturday

‘New Tricks for Old Dogs’ at First Christian Church

CUMMING — They say old dogs can’t learn new tricks, but a local charitable organization is hoping to prove that theory wrong.

The MSG Foundation will present “New Tricks for Old Dogs,” a jobs and services fair, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 1270 Sawnee Drive.

The Georgia Mountains Regional Commission will bring its mobile training unit to help people who have lost a job, need a new trade or to just update their job skills.

The unit provides a range of free services such as individualized job searches, resume and cover letter writing assistance, soft skills training and career interest assessments.

Representatives of JobGenieNetwork.com will also be on hand to help those looking to find new jobs or improve work skills.

Since the event has an “old dogs” theme, four-legged friends won’t be left out.

Healthy Paws for a Cause will offer low-cost pet vaccinations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The vet clinic will offer vaccines such as rabies, distemper/parvo, kennel cough for dogs, and feline leukemia and upper respiratory combination for cats.

Heartworm tests for dogs will also be available, as well as microchip services for cats and dogs.

Georgia Highlands Medical Services will offer a range of health screenings for people, and childcare will be provided through church volunteers.

Sharon Gunter, who along with husband Mark runs the MSG Foundation, said the event is free and open to anyone in need.

“This event is going to be very important for anyone looking for a new trade, to update skills or locate services,” she said. “We are anticipating a great turnout.”
