FORSYTH COUNTY — As results started trickling in and District 26 state Rep. Geoff Duncan took an early lead over Republican primary opponent Tom Knox, he was looking for a win.

But he was also seeking a victory of another sort while coaching son Bayler’s youth baseball game.

Between innings, Duncan was checking up on the results of his re-election bid, though the bulk of Tuesday night was spent at Central Park coaching his son’s baseball game.

Not coaching “wasn’t even an option in my mind,” Duncan said of the big evening.

With nearly 61 percent of the vote, Duncan held off Knox, who he also defeated in 2012, albeit by a much narrower margin, to secure a second term. He drew no opposition from Democrats.

As an incumbent, Duncan earned more than 3,600 votes to Knox’s 2,300 on Tuesday.

Duncan credited his wife, Brooke, and their three sons for the victory. He also expressed gratitude for their support throughout the campaign and his time at the state Capitol.

“We started this process together deciding to run for office,” he said. “They share every day with me when I get home from the capitol ... that’s how I get my decisions is from my family values.

“They’re so supportive of everything we’re able to do and to have them with me every step of the way is really, really important.”

Knox, a former longtime state lawmaker who stepped down in 2010 to run for insurance commissioner, could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
