Golf tourney Tuesday for Bald Ridge Lodge

POSTED: May 25, 2014 12:03 a.m.

CUMMING — An annual golf event will raise funds for the Bald Ridge Lodge.

The lodge is a home for boys ages 12 to 17 who are in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services or who are referred by the local Juvenile Court. The facility can house up to 12 boys at time.

Heidi Snarey, executive director of the lodge, said this will be the fifth year that the “For the Boys” Golf Classic has been held to raise fund supplemental funds for the facility.

She said in years past, the event has raised as much as $33,000 for the lodge.

“Our goal this year is to raise over $35,000 with 120 players,” Snarey said.

The event will held with registration beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Polo Golf and Country Club, 6300 Polo Club Drive.

Shotgun start is at noon. Lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A and the evening reception will be catered by Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q.

NASCAR Sprint Cup star David Ragan will be a featured guest during the tournament.

In addition to team competition, two contests will be offered.

Golfers can win prizes with hole-in-one and putting contests. Billy Howell Ford is offering a car as a prize for the hole-in-one competition, and three prizes will be awarded in the putting contest.

Golfers can register the morning of the tournament or in advance at www.BaldRidgeLodge.org.

Snarey said she’s hoping the community will again come out to help the lodge’s young residents.

“We are the only Forsyth County group home for at-risk teen boys, and the support of the community is what makes the lodge what it is today,” she said. “That is a place that strengthens family relationships, as well as provides a safe, nurturing, home-like, therapeutic environment for the boys.”
