New Habitat home under construction

POSTED: May 28, 2014 12:03 a.m.

NORTH FORSYTH — Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia recently held a “first nail” ceremony for the Beras family.

The ceremony commemorated the start of construction of their home on Leigh Lane in northeast Forsyth.

A number of volunteers attended the gathering, in which the family expressed their gratitude for the Habitat home.

“We are truly blessed to have been selected for this Habitat home,” Edward Beras said. “I want to thank all of the sponsors and volunteers who are going to make our dream of a family home come true.”

Edward and his wife, Magali, have two young children, Abigail and Elisabeth.

Edward Beras has been employed the last four years as a technician for a local computer company.

The family was referred to the Habitat program by their pastors, David and Joyce Smith, of the Secure Foundation Bible Church.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership.

Through the program, the recipient families put in at least 200 hours of “sweat equity” in building the home, which is also supported by community volunteers and sponsors.

A number of those contributors attended the ceremony May 17.

Among the sponsors of the home are: ADP, Alcon, Bank of North Georgia, Cisco, Citrix Systems, Garrard Construction, Dana & Wanda Karschner, PCL Industrial Construction Co., Siemens, SR Homes and The Villas at Canterfield.
