System continues school chief search

POSTED: June 1, 2014 12:05 a.m.

FORSYTH COUNTY — School is out, but the Forsyth County Board of Education likely will spend much of its summer searching for a new superintendent.

Buster Evans, who has held the post for six years, will retire at the end of June to become assistant commissioner of education with the Department of Corrections.

While Evans’ successor may not be determined before the fall, an interim school chief is expected to be announced early this week, officials said.

The deadline to submit applications to the Georgia School Board Association, which is handling the process for the school district, was May 2.

While the association is vetting candidates, all applicant information will be sent to the school board in three groups ranked as most qualified, somewhat qualified and not qualified.

Officials have previously said that the board left some requirement fields open so as not to rule out candidates who may not have previous experience as superintendent but could be an ideal fit.
