South grad gets UPS scholarship

Sierra Smith, a 2014 graduate of South Forsyth High School, has received a James E. Casey Merit Scholarship from UPS.

SOUTH FORSYTH — A recent South Forsyth High School graduate was one of 33 students nationwide who received the James E. Casey Merit Scholarship from UPS.

Sierra Smith, who graduated with honors and an International Baccalaureate diploma, plans to study biology at the University of Georgia before attending medical school.

The scholarship winners were selected on a competitive basis, which includes PSAT scores, grade-point average and significant achievements.

Growing up, Smith attended international school for three years while her father worked for UPS in Germany and Belgium. 

She was a varsity competitive cheerleader in high school and also competed at Twister Allstars cheerleading gym. 

In addition, is a competitive horseback rider, a member of DECA, National Honor Society, National Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The Casey scholarship program was established in 1963, for the purpose of offering scholarship support to children of UPS employees who planned to enter four-year degree programs at colleges and universities.
