Traffic advisory: Shift coming to Hwys. 9, 141

POSTED: June 18, 2014 12:05 a.m.

SOUTH FORSYTH — State Department of Transportation engineers are urging caution for those traveling Friday and Saturday in the area of Highways 9 and 141 in south Forsyth.

Beginning Friday night, about half a mile of traffic on Hwy. 9 will be shifted onto recently completed lanes.

Harold Mull, district construction engineer with the DOT, urged drivers to use “extreme caution” in the work zone.

“Please slow down as you travel through this work zone,” he said. “Message signs are in place now to alert the community of the upcoming changes.”

The traffic shift will begin Friday night and should be finished by 8 a.m. Saturday, with lane closures and traffic delays expected overnight.

The effort is part of an ongoing $5 million project to rework the busy crossing near Ga. 400 at Exit 13 to create two through lanes, two left turning lanes and a right turning lane for each leg.

The project will also upgrade the traffic signal equipment and will add sidewalks. Weather permitted, it should be complete by July 29.
