WEST FORSYTH — Kelly Mill Road west of Cumming was closed for several hours Tuesday afternoon following a single-vehicle wreck that toppled a utility pole.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, which occurred about 3:45 p.m. just west of the Union Station subdivision, between Cumming and Bethelview Road.

The vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole, cracking it in two places. A small section of the broken pole is holding up the high voltage power lines.

Utility workers and law enforcement personnel closed the road because of the possibility the pole could break further, dropping the power lines onto the road.

The crash disrupted power and telephone service in the area.

This vehicle crossed the path of the new pedestrian path for the Big Creek greenway. Since this was proposed, it seemed a bad idea to put pedestrians, bikes, families, children .... however you want to characterize your precious people... directly into the path of cars that frequently lose control on this road. The guard rail along where the path is being built was constantly damaged and repaired. I think that piece of news must have been kept from the decision makers that chose this route,. Please! Someone reconsider this pathway before someone's most valued treasure is the subject of the next news report! This was our warning call! (Incidentally, all the new homes being approved on this road will only make this eventually more frequent and devastating!)
