For anyone who feels they are running low on local dining options, an event this weekend is just for you.

On Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., the city of Cumming will host Taste of Forsyth at the Cumming Fairgrounds. Admission is free, and attendees will have a chance to check out samples from restaurants in and around Forsyth County.

“It’s an event to showcase restaurants that a lot of people may not know about, not necessarily in the county, but in the surrounding area,” said Tracy Helms, events coordinator with the city. “It’s a way for the public to get a sample of what that restaurant has without purchasing the whole meal.”

More than 20 restaurants will be offering samples, which are affordable enough to try several restaurants.

“People love it,” Helms said “All the samples cost $1-$4, so they can try something in a restaurant they’ve never eaten before and they can see if it’s somewhere they do want to have dinner one night.”

Helms said restaurants also benefit by getting food to customers who might not have tried it out otherwise.

For kids, who aren’t always happy to try new foods, there will be three Easter egg hunts and goodie bags, which members of Highlands Church prepared this week.

The hunts will be held at 11:30 a.m. for kids 3 and under, 1 p.m. for those 4-7 and 2:30 p.m. for ages 8-10.

“And there’s also a kids zone with inflatables, there’s a ground act that is free as well; it’s Puppeteer Peter Hart. And there’s live music, as well, so it’s a great family event that has something to do for everyone,” Helms said.

The Cumming Fairgrounds is located at 235 Castleberry Road, near downtown Cumming.
