Alpharetta at West Forsyth

When, where: Tonight, 7:30 p.m., at The Den in Cumming.

Records, rankings: Alpharetta is 0-1 overall, 0-0 in Region 6-AAAAAA and unranked; West is 0-1, 0-0 and unranked.

Series history: Tied 2-2.

Last meeting: Alpharetta won 31-17 in 2013.

What to know: Alpharetta and West Forsyth both broke in first-year head coaches last week with similar results. The Raiders lost 17-10 to Milton in Jacob Nichols’ debut, while the Wolverines lost 65-27 to Mill Creek in Adam Clack’s debut. Both Nichols and Clack were their respective teams’ offensive coordinators last season.

Recent history suggests neither team should be worried after losing the season-opener. Alpharetta lost to Milton last season (31-24, OT) and went on to win the Region 6-AAAAAA title. West lost to Gainesville (58-28) and reached the playoffs for the fourth straight season.

West will be familiar with Alpharetta’s biggest weapons on both sides of the ball. Defensive end Andrew Butcher is committed to Tennessee and had two sacks against Milton, while quarterback Austin King, a N.C. State commitment, was 17 of 30 for 235 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions.

Surely, West is eager to forget last week’s loss to Mill Creek in which it allowed the most points in school history. It must, for its meetings against Alpharetta have often had region title implications in recent seasons.
