Horizon boys win GICAA championship

The Horizon Christian Academy boys' basketball team celebrates after winning the GICAA Division II championship Friday.

The Horizon Christian Academy boys’ basketball team won the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association Division II-A championship 54-52 over Westminster Christian Academy on Friday at Central Georgia Technical College in Macon.

Junior Michael Walker put back a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Warriors its third state title in school history and first in the GICAA.

Dakota Holtzclaw led Horizon (20-0) with 23 points, while Walker scored 11 points and Jake Fussell added 10 points.

The Warriors (20-0) led 25-24 at halftime. Horizon found itself down three in the final minute until senior Ben Weaver drained a 3-pointer to tie the game at 52 with 37 seconds left.

The Warriors made a defensive stand and took possession with 16 seconds left, setting up Walker’s heroics.
