SOUTH FORSYTH — A 13-year-old from south Forsyth won the title of Miss Georgia Pre-Teen earlier this month at the National American Miss pageant in Atlanta.

Caitlyn Capre, who attends South Forsyth Middle School, will represent Georgia in November at the national pageant in Anaheim, Calif.

Capre became involved in pageants three years ago while living in New Jersey. She won her first pageant, which was organized by a local nonprofit, and has been competing ever since.

Capre is involved in drama and volunteers with Browns Bridge Community Church. Joseline Capre said community involvement has been a valuable experience for her daughter.

“It just teaches them that life is not about them but about other people as well,” she said. “Serving other people is priority, and that brings joy to us.”

Caitlyn Capre credited pageants for helping her become more outgoing.

“When I first started pageants, I was very shy,” she said. “Pageants helped me overcome my shyness and build self-confidence.”

Her involvement in drama has helped her prepare to take the stage at pageants.

“Anyone can do pageants, or acting, and you’ll be happy with yourself,” she said. “A lot of girls have low self-esteem, like I did … but acting has helped me with it all.”
