WEST FORSYTH — The Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club recently recognized Chandler Gladden as its student of the year.

A 2014 graduate of West Forsyth High School, Gladden was described by club officials as "an inspiring young man.”

"He is very well-rounded, not only a scholar and athlete, but a giver of his time and talents,” said Randy O'dell, club president. “He is truly deserving of this recognition."

While maintaining a high grade-point average, Gladden lettered in track at West. He is a long-distance runner, having participated in many charity runs, and posted perfect school attendance from eighth through 12th grades.

In addition, Gladden has served as a mentor, worked with special-needs students and volunteered with several organizations, including the Miracle League, MSG Food Foundation and Junior Optimist Octagon International.

While evaluating his college and career options, he lives with his parents, Charles and Carolyn Gladden, and younger brother, Remington.
