South Forsyth girls’ track team’s bus hit by Forsyth County truck

No injuries reported, road blocked in west Forsyth

POSTED: March 8, 2017 3:51 p.m.

WEST FORSYTH -- A school bus carrying the South Forsyth High School girls’ track team was involved an accident with a Forsyth County Engineering Department truck Wednesday afternoon in west Forsyth, though no injuries were reported.

The team was heading from South, which is on Peachtree Parkway, to Creekview High School, which is off Canton Highway (Hwy. 20 west) in Cherokee County, when it was reportedly t-boned by a pickup truck on Bethelview and Castleberry roads, according to Jennifer Caracciolo, spokeswoman for the school system.

The bus was carrying 29 students, one teacher and the driver, Caracciolo said.

Though no one seemed injured after an initial check, an ambulance was called to the scene out of precaution.

Caracciolo said the students are being transferred to another bus.

Sarah Dunlap, a spokeswoman for the county government, confirmed the white pickup that reportedly hit the bus is a county-owned, marked vehicle. It's driver was transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with non-life threatening injuries.

One lane of Castleberry Road is shut down just north of Bethelview so wreckers can clear the vehicles, said Deputy Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

This is one of two accidents involving public school buses within an hour of each other. The other involved one bus rear-ending another in front of Kelly Mill Elementary.

Both of those buses were fully loaded. Nine students were examined for complaints of soreness.
