County approves library, precinct at Denmark High

POSTED: February 28, 2017 2:00 a.m.

Some other Forsyth County amenities will be moving to the county’s newest high school.

At a recent work session, Forsyth County commissioners unanimously approved a master plan at Denmark High School, which is currently under construction, for a library, athletic field and sheriff’s office substation. The plan will be handled by GreenbergFarrow for $5,000.

The county approved the purchase of the land in late-December for about 9.5 acres. The library is expected to use about 6.5 acres of the property.

The library is expected to be a 30,000- to 40,000-square-foot building.

Previously, a full sheriff’s precinct had been discussed, but District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills said she spoke with Sheriff Ron Freeman and that he is in favor of the smaller building.

“He said that he would like to have a substation that would connect with the library to have a presence,” she said. “He just said that would give him enough presence to help the high school without having to have a full building.”

At a previous meeting, the next SPLOST was discussed as a funding source for construction.
