A Chestatee Academy teacher submitted her resignation in lieu of termination after the Hall County Sheriff’s Office suspected her in a $6 million drug seizure.

Karla Alvarez, 28, of Oakwood, had been on unpaid leave since her March 17 arrest, where she was charged with trafficking and possessing with the intent to distribute cocaine and heroin.

The Hall County Board of Education accepted the resignation at its Monday meeting.

Authorities searched a home in the 4000 block of Crawford Oaks Drive in Oakwood, where they reportedly found 61 kilograms of cocaine, 1 kilogram of heroin and two semi-automatic assault rifles.

The drugs were reportedly worth $6,209,280.

Monica Pascual Brito, 24, was also arrested and charged.

Alvarez had been a teacher at Chestatee since August 2015 and coached the middle school girls soccer team, according to Hall County Schools.

At the time of the arrests of Alvarez and Monica Brito, authorities said they were still looking for Ricardo Pascual Brito, 25, of Gainesville, who faces the same charges.
