Forsyth County fire officials are investigating a suspicious blaze Friday afternoon at an abandoned house in Cumming.
No one was inside the home at 318 Bald Ridge Road when the fire started about 4 p.m.
Forsyth County Fire Capt. Jason Shivers said the blaze appeared to have started in the basement of the house, which has no electricity and was boarded up.
He said the cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. The extent of the damage had not been determined.
A man Shivers described as homeless showed up after the fire had been put out.
Shivers said Cumming police arrested the man, who had reportedly been staying in the home without the owner’s permission, for a probation violation.
The house is the site of an August 2006 incident in which one homeless man allegedly killed another by setting him on fire.
