Annual Auto Crusade rolling into Cumming Fairgrounds
Auto Crusade

Organizers of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church’s annual Auto Crusade expect this year’s car show to top last’s, which was the largest in the event’s nearly quarter-century history.

The show, which will be held Saturday at the Cumming Fairgrounds, will kick off its 24th year Friday evening with a cruise-in that will feature a bluegrass gospel band and barbecue for dinner, according to Danny Bearden, one of the organizers.

“Gods blessed us – this is our 24th year – and I’m just looking forward to a beautiful weekend and a lot of fun,” Bearden said. “Every year we get more and more cars, and we’re just trying to top the [previous] year and have the best show possible to raise money for our youth group.”

Spectators can attend the Friday night event and Saturday’s show for free, and those who would like to enter a car can do so for $30.

Friday’s barbecue dinner will start being served at 6 p.m. and costs $10 per plate, and music starts at 7 p.m. The event runs until 10 p.m.

On Saturday, car registration runs from 8 a.m.-noon, though the show runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those interested can still enter their cars the day of the event.

“This is a big undertaking,” Bearden said, “and we usually work from about the first of March until August on this, so it’s a great event.”
