A man was found dead on the Appalachian Trail in the area of Amicalola Falls State Park Tuesday morning, according to Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson.
At about 9:41 a.m., the sheriff's office 911 center received a call of a possible dead body. When officers arrived they found a deceased male located an estimated 75 yards north of the Len Foote Hike Inn, according to Johnson.
Johnson said that a hiker reported the body, and that authorities have reason to believe the man was also a hiker.
Johnson said there were no apparent signs of foul play, but the investigation is still active. The death appeared to be recent, according to Johnson.
No identification is being released at this time, though Johnson said the man is middle-aged.
