Three strikes won’t get you out at Mentor Me North Georgia’s Bowl for Kids event Saturday — in fact, it could help you win the game.

The event, a bowling fundraiser for the nonprofit, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Stars and Strikes bowling alley in Cumming.

For $25, bowlers will receive two hours of playing time, shoe rental and pizza for lunch, in addition to prizes.

Mentor Me is a United Way Forsyth County non-profit that provides one-on-one mentoring relationships between volunteer adults and children.

The organization matches the volunteers with children ages 6 to 17 who need or want a mentor, according to a news release. Men are matched with boys, and women are matched with girls.

The mentors and mentees, the release said, “share everyday activities such as sports and movies, or going to the zoo and music events. Most of the children in the mentoring program live in single-parent homes or are living with grandparents or foster parents.”

The bowling event will function as both a fundraiser and a meet-and-greet.

“[Residents] can interact with our mentors and mentees and also have fun — that’s part of what mentoring is about,” said Sylvia Cardona, executive director. “They will enjoy the bowling party, but most important, they have the opportunity to support Forsyth kids who need mentors and friends. And we welcome corporate sponsors. The funds we raise help us match children with caring mentors.”

Despite receiving some support from a grant from the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, the organization depends on private donations for 50 percent of its funding.
