DAWSONVILLE — A 10-year-old Virginia boy died Wednesday night after he was struck by a Jet Ski on Lake Lanier in Dawson County.

The child was flown to an Atlanta children’s hospital, where he died from what Dawson County Emergency Services Battalion Chief Milton Keller called “blood loss from internal injuries.”

The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident, which occurred about 2:45 p.m.

Dawson County Emergency Services handled the emergency call, which came from a residence on Stone Cliff Cove Drive off of Nix Bridge Road.

Emergency personnel said the child, whose name has not been released, was in and out of consciousness when they arrived.

“He had a large bump in the middle of his forehead, which was the only obvious injury we saw when we arrived,” Keller said.

According to Keller, the boy and his brother, both from McLean, Va., were at the lake with family visiting friends in Dawson County

“From my understanding, they were both riding Jet Skis and the child got ran over by the other Jet Ski,” Keller said.

An adult and several other children on a boat dock saw the collision and were able to pull the child out of the water, he said.
